SHIPBUILDING :

The Company has two units ideally located at Salkia and Nazirgunge on the bank of River Hooghly in the city of Howrah and well connected with Kolkata. Both these units of HDPEL have the required infrastructure and potential for construction of various types of vessels, viz. Tugs, Dredgers, Floating Drydock, Fire Float, Fishing Trawlers, grab Hopper and Surface Dredgers, Light House Tender Vessels, Oil Pollution Control Vessel, Passenger Vessel etc. Since Nationalization in 1984 till date, the Company has delivered 46 Nos. diversified vessels and pontoons It shall not be out of context to mention that prior to nationalization the company had built a numerous diversified fleet which might be plying till now in all major ports in India. Recently on 27.09.2002 the Company has delivered a large Light House Tender Vessel (M. V. Sagardeep-II) to the Department of Lighthouses & Lightships, Government of India. A 400 Passenger-cum-100 Ton Cargo Vessel is now under construction at the Salkia Yard for Andaman & Nicobar Administration, besides other projects of Inland Waterways Authority of India, Dredging Corporation of India.

SHIPREPAIRING :

As regards re-fitting jobs unique infrastructures facilities are available in our units. We have also adequate facilities to undertake emergency repair jobs at Kidderpore Dock and at Haldia. It is worth mentioning that our ship repair division with its Drydock at our Salkia Works - an ISO 9001 unit (Drydock measuring 94 M X 13.4 M x 8.6 M deep to accommodate vessels for refitting) and with other facilities in both the units like Jetties, Building Slipways / Berths / Wet Basin, well equipped Workshops, varieties of Cranes and other machineries etc., are in a position to undertake repairs to small and medium size vessels / marine crafts to the fullest satisfaction of customers.

The valuable issues like total customer care including providing value added service, strictly maintaining delivery schedules, stringent quality control and quality of work have been given top priority.
